Drawing and Painting Major

LCAD's Fine Arts department provides entering students an immersive curriculum that offers a robust learning experience in representational drawing, painting and sculpture with an emphasis placed on academic figuration that serves every bit a jumping off betoken. Alongside the building of skills, our courses encourage experimentation with materials and exploration of individual ideas and motivations to broaden pupil'due south visual language, culminating in the development of a torso of work that is authentic to each artist.

Students entering senior year are provided a private studio space to work for the entirety of their final year, where they are mentored individually and engage in critical discourse with their peers and distinguished guests. The Fine Arts department offers a BFA in Cartoon and Painting, in addition to an Emphasis in Illustration and an Emphasis in Sculpture.

Figurative Sculpture Emphasis

Our undergraduate Sculpture Emphasis gives students the skills to produce ¼ life-size to monumental sculptures that convey contemporary narrative themes. Our Sculpture curriculum is based in classical techniques and prepares students to enter the competitive field of sculpture by gaining commissions, exhibiting as gallery artists, obtaining public grants, and/or branching out into the amusement and special furnishings industries.

Illustration Emphasis

The Drawing + Painting with Illustration Emphasis zeroes in on the art world establish at the intersection of fine arts and illustration to ready you to work in both traditional and mixed media arts. The program'southward curriculum volition hone imaginative narratives with design-based aesthetics for commercial and non-commercial applications.

Through both skill building and professional person studies curriculum, this emphasis will allow yous to take advantage of the representational training of the Drawing + Painting major. You likewise will gain experience in exhibition, branding, and entrepreneurial skills that will assist you to succeed as an independent artist working in a visual style that reflects Imaginative Realism, Pop Surrealism, and mural arts.

Atelier Scholarship

LCAD is where high value is placed on timeless skills. All LCAD Approved Atelier students admitted to LCAD'southward BFA programs in Cartoon & Painting are guaranteed at to the lowest degree $30,000 in scholarships. *Amount based on four-yr degree track, a minimum 2.0 GPA and enrolled in at least nine units each semester. 12 units of transfers are accepted of atelier training based on contact hours.
